Lapsi, Labsi, Lausi,  (लप्सी, लब्सी, लउसी) - Nepalese Hog Plum Hog plum is a deciduous tree reaching 15–22 metres (49–72 feet) in height. The bark is deeply fissured. The plant typically drops most of its compound leaves before flowering. The drupe fruits are about 4 cm (1.6 inches) in length and have a leathery yellow-green skin. Common Name: Nepalese Hog Plum Botanical Name: Choerosopondias axillaries Roxb. Family: Anacardiaceae Lapsi (also known as labsi or lausi) are a native fruit of Nepal.  The tall subtropical tree can be found growing in many parts of the country.  The fruit is greenish-yellow when ripe and roughly resembles a small oval-shaped plum.  It is extremely sour, even when fully ripe, and has a high vitamin C content.  The fruit has a tough fibrous skin and pale yellow flesh, which is firmly attached to a large brown seed.  The pulp is difficult to separate from the seeds, but once cooked it separates easily.  A ripe lapsi has a pleasantly tart flavor

A visit to Nanglo Cafe - Kathmandu

Nanglo Cafe is one of the oldest and most popular restaurant in Nepal. 

They have multiple locations but the most popular one is in Durbar Margh aka Kings Palace Road. Infact they have two branches in Durbar Margh, both next to each other. One serves mostly Chinese dishes while the other is Continental and mixed dishes.

The food is great, and the place is always busy with both local and foreign customers. Prices are typically $5 to $10 per dish. For those who don’t know what to order here, I would suggest Chicken Sizzler(see in picture below). If you prefer something more local I recommend a Nepali Thali or chicken momo's. 


Service is average for a Nepali restaurant. However if you are a foreigner or appear to be a foreigner you can relax because you will get great service as Nepali waiters love foreign clients due to their generosity with tips. 



There are more than 14 branches of the café within and outside of Kathmandu, making it one of the largest and most popular restaurant chains in Nepal.
