Dharara collapses Nepal Earthquake disaster 2015

Dharara collapses Nepal Earthquake disaster 2015

Pray For Nepal - The earthquake on Saturday April 25, 2015 was the biggest to hit Nepal since 1930. The cost of rebuilding is estimated to cost US$ 5 Billion to $10 Billion. Its a huge amount for any country but specially large for a poor developing country like Nepal.

  • What happened in the Nepal Earthquake 2015?
  • A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, 2015, toppling multi-story buildings in Kathmandu, the capital, and creating landslides and avalanches in the Himalaya Mountains. Nearly 9,000 people died and more than 22,000 suffered injuries.
  • What was destroyed in the Nepal earthquake?
  • Nepal earthquake of 2015, also called Gorkha earthquake, severe earthquake that struck near the city of Kathmandu in central Nepal on April 25, 2015. About 9,000 people were killed, many thousands more were injured, and more than 600,000 structures in Kathmandu and other nearby towns were either damaged or destroyed.
  • Why was the 2015 Nepal earthquake so destructive?
  • Contributing to the devastation was the fact that Kathmandu lies in a basin filled with about 2000 feet of sediments from a former lake. During the shaking of an earthquake, such sedimentary basins tend to amplify the ground motion and thereby increase the destruction.

One of the previous iconic landmark the Dharahara tower (Bhimsen Tower) has collapsed taking with it some lives of people who were in it during the quake.
